Can anyone recommend any study guides for the CCIP exams?

The tests are designed around the actual course material so you will get more test topics covered in the student guides. If you want to go about the long and drawn out process then you should read the Cisco Press books, and Cisco Tech articles and whitepapers.
Cisco makes a business out of taking all of their printed CiscoPress books and condensing them into a nice 3k-5k course. They then test you on the material in the 3k-5k course and call you certified when you pass them. CiscoPress books, exam guides, and self study guides are great but not as good as the actual course materials. Your best bet would be to either take the recommended Cisco courses, where you get hands on with the lab exercises, or obtain a PDF from a guy who knows a guy who may happen to know a guy that attended the course and got all of the material in PDF and eBook format.
