It's not on the list of exams that are retiring in October.
    See this thread http://www.techexams.net/forums/general-certification/54197-microsoft-announces-exam-retirements.html

There are still A LOT of companies running Exchange 2003. I wouldn't expect to see the exam retire for another year or two. It is still supported at the latest SP level until 2014. Heck, they just last year discontinued the SQL 2000 exams I think.
    IT guy since 12/00

Recent: 11/2019 - RHCSA (RHEL 7); 2/2019 - Updated VCP to 6.5 (just a few days before VMware discontinued the re-cert policy...)
    Working on: RHCE/Ansible
Future: Probably continued Red Hat Immersion, Possibly VCAP Design, or maybe a completely different path. Depends on job demands...

The exam retirement list has been updated and 284 is scheduled to be retired in March 2011. So, if you are planning on doing the messaging specialization for 2003, better go knock the exams out quick... 285 is listed as being retired in both October 2010 and March 2011... I'm not sure if they mistakenly listed it for 2011, or if their intent was to update it and retire them at the same time.

Both the 70-284 and 70-285 are due to expire in March 2011. I sought clarification from Microsoft on this matter (and had this confirmed to me today) as I wanted to get the messaging specialisation for my MCSE (as i still work with clients that have Exchange 2k3).

Good to hear. The messaging specialization was on my list of certifications to have completed by my annual review in March 2011, but my plans kept getting more hefty and I need to lighten the load by passing on it. Now that it is extended until March, I may pursue it if I end up having time later on.
