Talking to WGU Enrollment Advisor on Thursday

Yep, I decided I'd check WGU out after seeing the success everyone else is having with them. I don't plan to enroll until maybe summer/fall of next year but it doesn't hurt to get some questions answered ahead of time and start to plan ahead.

I'm hoping I won't have to worry about taking too many classes since I plan to have a pretty good list of certifications at that point, not to mention about two years of prior college education that I never used towards a degree. Maybe I can get away with a semester or two worth of classes to get a BS in IT.

I'll let you folks know how things look after Thursday and whether or not I'll be attending in a year.

One bit of advice, most of the enrollment counselors are clueless amd you can usually get your questions answered better here.
Are you thinking of Security or Network design and management as that willgive you an idea of what certs to work for between now and then. Also the testing fees are paid for by WGU so it may actually do you better to enroll earlier and do more of your certs at WGU. If you can blaze through a bunch of certs pretty quick then it may be advantageous to start earlier ( especially the CompTIA certs)
If you post some of your college courses here we may have some idea of what you'll be lookig at once you start WGU.

I agree with earweed about the enrollment counselors. I wouldn't base the decision on the enrollment counselors, but more by what the people here have to say. If I were to base my decision on an enrollment counselor there is no way I would have attended WGU.

In fact, when I did my survey about what I thought of my enrollment counselor, I made sure to mention how much of a used-car salesman he sounded like. If it weren't for guys on TE doing this, I would have passed just like jmasterj206...

I'll keep all of that in mind. Most of my questions actually pertain to stuff I've already seen on their website, I just want to reiterate it.

Basically by the time I'm able to afford enrollment I'll have what I currently have and then on top of that my MCITP: SA, MCITP: EA, Network+, CCNA, and I'm considering trying to knock out the Security+ before the end of this year. With those plus about two years of general college courses (I was working towards an AA degree and fell just 15 credits shy of it), about how long do you think I'd be in school? I'm just looking to get the general BS in IT since I plan to get into high end Sysadmining, the degree is just to get me a bit more notice over other candidates applying for those mid to high level jobs.

If you are going to get your MCITP:EA, you might as well shoot for the the Network Design and Management track. I believe if you have a AA, you will not have to do GE classes at all. (The Associates of Applied Sciences is a different story...it's gotta be a AA). You would then have most of your IT track done if you do A+, Net+ and Sec+ on top of your EA...you'll still need to take foundations 1, and Project+ (I wouldn't rush to do Project+...I'd wait until you're at WGU). With what you're coming in with, and if you do nights and weekends, I don't see how you couldn't be done by 1 year to a 1.5 years. Easy!

I'd have to imagine Michael you would be close to the 70 percent max you could transfer in. Depending on what generals you have and how much time you have to work on I would guess a year. It is really hard to give an answer though since every person is different. I probably wouldn't do the general BSIT track since you would knock out most of the other requirements if you have the ccna, ea, or sa. That would get you done even faster.

I'd recommend Michael doing the network design and management as well if he wants to get done faster. If he wants exposure to more different things (DB,Java, Site Design) then the general would be better but take longer. I'd say a year if doing NDM and 1-1/2 years for the general.

I'm looking over the NDM path and it looks like it'll suit me just fine. Thanks for the help guys, I'm looking forward to enrolling sometime in the next year.
