who does/doesn't have a job?

I see a lot of certs on this board, but I never know who does what, except for a few I can remember...

who has a job? who has a stack of certs and still can't find work?

I only have 1 cert right now, I plan on looking for a job again in Dec/Jan, but then I plan on having ITIL, A+, Net+, Security+, and 1 more which I have yet to decide upon... I already have an Associates in Business and 9 years of experience with AT&T, half in a call center and half as a service tech.

just trying to get a rough idea of what the job scene i like...

I have a non IT job right now and still looking for an IT job. All the certs in my signature (+1 I don't list) except for the A+ have been obtained this year and because I got them for my BSIT at WGU which I'll be done with in a few months.
Don't wait til December or January to start looking. The job market is rough out there.

I'm employed as a Systems Administrator. All the certs under my name plus some I didn't bother mentioning. Everything in my signature is work in progress.

I have a non-it job and have been looking for an IT for 6+ months. Some weeks I send quite a few resumes some weeks I may only send out 1 or even none. I've been out of IT for almost 6 years now. I got my A+ back in 2001 and got the Net+ MCDST in the last 8 months and then decided to go back to school too.

These days, it seems, there is competition among TE members, especially new ones, to start the longest threads, and pointless ones? This one fits the bill.

: why is it pointless? I clearly explained the point of it in the first post? I was wondering if there are people with a lot of certs who still can't get a job? what thread is worthy of a point? all the "I passed" threads shouldn't be either? there's clearly no point to those right?

I agree with Mike-Mike's intention with this thread. This along with the IT salary updates serves as a valuable "checkpoint" to kind of see where people are relative to their achievements. I don't feel like this is a pointless thread but I also don't think the "I passed" threads are worthless either. Each certification attained is an accomplishment and a huge majority of people in the field don't truly understand what we go through to get them (haven't started them or maybe don't understand why they are important).

I wasn't implying that the "I Passed!" threads were pointless, I was trying to point out how absurd Essendon's response was, sorry if I wasn't clear there

This board would be more informative if we got things like years of experience and location as well as employment status and certs. For example:

Network Engineer - Denver CO
5 years of experience (since I left the AF)
Employed
CCNA:S, MCITP:EA, MCTS:Exchange, ITIL
Longest time unemployed: 2 months

Currently employed as a Network Admin.

Also just got a new job as a Desktop admin (really same duties as a Sys admin so no step back there just in title which I don't care about). It did take me 6 months to find this new job however.

I just got a job and at the time I interviewed i only had my A+ and do you know what my boss asked me? what the heck was A+? now at the time i thought he was a retard but i explained it to him.....but now that i work with him and know he is a freaking genius i think he was just testing me....long story story short I dont think they helped but I went on so many more interview after just getting my A+ that i know it at least got me in the door at a few places

I'm a system admin got some certs but more experience. I'm currently going for MCITP-EA and SA (next Thursday). I will be looking for a new job starting next month.

One comment though I don't look at the forum as good thread or silly one, the ones I'm interested in I participate and comment and the one I'm not I simply ignore.

and I agree with some comments, the "I passed" thread are nice indeed because it's a way of celebrate for at least one month of study and hours of labbing, it's a way as well to find out more about the exam itself and it's a way to encourage those who are afraid of taking an exam.

I have an exam on Thu and hopefully there is gonna be " I passed " thread so get ready

I don't have a problem with threads like these. But I don't like answering them every month either. BUT in no way do I find threads like these pointless...but I do wish there were some mechanism where I don't have to answer a thread like this one every other week. I also find the "I passed threads" to be extremely encouraging as za3bour stated to folks like myself and others who may want to know about the exam and experiences related to studying. (Though I understand that wasn't the OP's intent.)

Having said all that: three certs which don't even relate to my job (systems/database administrator for the PeopleSoft ERP at a state university). 13 years of professional IT experience and out of that 7 years related to PeopleSoft ERP.

19 years total of PC general knowledge. Time certainly does fly.

Sure. I've seen people working help desk read **** all day between calls and get a huge list of certifications -- but without the knowledge and skills they should have gained if they had actually studied and earned their certifications, they never get off the help desk.
