New CCSP... for however long that lasts

mikearamamikearama Member Posts: 749
3 years, I suppose.

I passed the IPS exam today... 823. I found it a surprise... I'd heard that it wasn't that tough, but still had no less than a dozen questions that were nothing more than best guesses.

The Nuggets were good... the Study Guide was too... having the 4240 to play with was priceless. The sims were pleasantly easy after getting lots of hands-on.

So, I have to say, after all the reported changes, finally getting my SP with an ASA Specialization is no where near the high I thought it would be.

On to the VP, or whatever it's called now.

Taking a time-out to add the CCVP. Capitalizing on a current IPT pilot project.

No longer work in IT. Play around with stuff sometimes still and fix stuff for friends and relatives.

Congrats on that. Hopefully I stay on course with my plans so that I can start on the CCSP/CCNP Security at the start of 2011 and finish up before the old exams get retired.

Best wishes on your Voice path.

Good News bro, I posted just posted this in the CCSP Changes thread, Cisco reviewed the changes they made, and you won't be a CCSP for just 3 years now, you will be able to renew your CCSP by taking any 642.

I'm currently doing CCNA Security @01/21/2011, then i'm goes to SNRS, and then i'm stuck, i don't find any doc or book to learn about ASA Firewalls.

    i have 3 ASA Firewalls and 4 PIX'es 515ER. plus an IPS4240.

if you could send me the "list" of "what to read" to get my ASA Specialist, and IPS Specialist, i'll really appreciate that.

    hope you could help me.

    thanks for your time.

So, is there a lot of overlap between IINS and SNRS? I assume that there is, but I am not sure. I plan on jumping on those two, and then SNAF and SNAA... finally finish up with the IPS exam.

I had the Cisco ASA, PIX and FWSM Firewall Handbook by Hucaby as my main resource, and it was excellent. I added in the CBT's, and with 4 pairs of ASA's to play with at work, found the SNAF quite passable. The SNAA was a little tougher, as we don't use VPN's at work... Citrix for remote access... but I did get to take one external pair of ASA's and configure both a clientless SSL vpn setup, and then the AnyConnect push to remote clients, which my manger likes so much we left in place and use frequently.

Going through the exam blueprint and googling for a couple docs / white papers saved my bacon on the SNAA, no doubt about it.

As for the IPS exam, I scored a demo from our Cisco account rep (we use TopLayer IPS's at work, for some reason)... I plan on replacing the TopLayers in 2011, and said I'd like a demo to get familiar with. Used it for all the hands-on labs I could find for the exam. I found the 642-533 CBT's very good. I followed along with Jeremy when in the GUI and labbed up everything he did. Priceless. The Cisco Press Study Guide I had was for the 532 exam, which covered all the important stuff.

    Hope that helps.

There is a lot of overlap, based on the blueprint. You can be sure that the SNRS takes everything you'll learn in the IINS a step further... that's always the way. Same as when I took my NA: Security... a perfect lead into the SNRS.
