UK IT qualifications

Hi All,
This is my first post as I have just heard of this site from friend after searching blindly online for hours looking for some info!

I am a UK student studying Computing and Information Technology and currently on placement. I am currently working in a tech support role and I am currently looking to further my qualifications during this years placement.

I want to know what qualifications people would recommend?
Mainly in the tech support field.
I am thinking of taking the compTIA A+ cert to begin with if anyone has any more ideas or suggestions that would be great

I would say the A+, Network+ and either the MCDST (for XP, as it's been extended now until June next year) or the MCITP: Enterprise Support Technician 7 (for Windows 7).
