Just got an interesting call....

...from a CIO at a hospital that I interviewed with 8 months ago and turned down in favor of my current job. He's wondering "what it would take" to get me on his team. That's a nice question to hear.

The job I turned down was a jack of all trades position for a small hospital with a 4 man IT department. I honestly would have taken it for the experience if the money had been equal. It sounded like they were in the $30k range, though, and my current employer was looking for desktop support and paying in the high 40s.

This may turn into a tough decision if he can play hardball dollar-wise. I really hate to even think about leaving my current position when I haven't even been here a year, though. I dunno....I'm pretty happy where I'm at, so it would take a sweet deal to make me move. I'm going to talk to him Friday morning at 7 before I head to work. To be continued.......

If its the kind of job you want and they can match the pay you want then I'd go for it. Working at a place less than a year isn't that rare. Just put in your two weeks and try not to burn bridges on your way out. It is business after all, nothing personal and I'm sure they will understand if you are a professional about it.

I had a nice chat with the guy this morning. Since I'm happy where I'm at, I gave him a number $10k higher than what I make now. He was still looking to hire someone around $40k, though. They want an admin who will do AD, Exchange, firewalls, vpns, and routine desktop support. They can't pay any better than that, though.

He was happy to hear that I have my CCNA and am working on the MCSE material. They really need someone to support firewall/vpn stuff. That's an area they're lacking skills/knowledge. They don't have anything bigger than a Sonicwall, though.

I'd love to gain the experience that position would offer, but I can't/won't take a paycut to do it. I'm just going to wait it out where I'm at and take whatever tidbits of responsibility they continue to throw my way.
