Dial-Peer / Destination-Pattern Question...

I purchased a Cisco 3640 off of Ebay that had FXO and FXS ports. It also had the previous owner's configuration and was used in a government environment. I won't say whose router it was - as they left all that information in the configs - but really enjoy looking how they did things.

There were over 70+ dial-peers using pots and voip. Here's my question...

There were multiple dial-peers with the same destination pattern (see below as just one example). The only differences that I could see was the preference command.

In my studiesicon_study.gif, the 1st destination pattern that matched was the one that was used. I'm a bit confused as to when the others would be used...

When would this type of configuration be used?

Thanks!
Paul L.

The session targets are all different so this was more than likely done for redundancy - possibly 3 different fax servers (or some other type of computer telephony integration).

It's always fun looking at someone else's config. A couple of my 2811s came with some pretty sensitive info "backed up" in plain text in flash (even though the running configs were wiped).

1760 I bought off ebay belonged to a bank! had access lists, radius server details and passwords in clear in the config - most of the time the previous user has presumed they are handing this kit over to a reputable company who will wipe all data before disposal!
Going all out for Voice. Don't worry Data; I'll never forget you
