PPP - which OSI layer?

dangtran09dangtran09 Member Posts: 26 ■□□□□□□□□□
from my education and understanding it's data link layer protocol...similar to frame relay, hdlc.

however, when discussing about telecom network of point-to-point microwave radio links with my director(CCNA). he described this ppp as layer 3 and is routable. icon_confused.gif:

now, im totally confused. someone share some light to this confusion please. thanks.

ppp is routable if it is encapsulated... by definition, it is point-to-point, and it is not routable. The way it becomes routable is if it is encapsulated in a routable protocol, like IP, which is the case for PPTP, or point-to-point tunneling protocol. It is datalink layer.
