I installed an IOS and now it is gone

Yesterday I installed an IOS in a 2610 router by using the xmodem command and the transfer\send from hyperterminal it took 3.37 hours to complete, then it automaticaly booted to router>. (yeah). I copyed a running-config startup-config from a text pad save, and all was great! I could ping my wan , lan ...
I did a copy running-config startup-config and shut it down.
!
This morning I turned on my gear and I am at rommon 1 >

why did it leak out??? what did I do I or not do?

show version doesnt work at rommon prompts, I think show flash: does and should tell you what image is on your flash. Next time you use xmodem -increase the baud rate so that it goes faster. The image for my 3640 took less than an hour.

Why did you do xmodem on 2610 in rommon? You could have done much faster IOS transfer thru TFTPDNLD in rommon. I did xmodem on 3640 because it did not have tftpddnld.

I kept trying tftpdnld as you suggest above but I would always get an error illegal ip so I did xmodem.

I just redid the xmodem tranfer/send and thanks about resetting the baud that did double the speed.

what do I need to do so it does not boot to rommon> again when I shut off the power?

It was not doing it so I retransfered using xmodem transfer/send

now apperently I must have the IOS in RAM and need to move it to FLASH, but i do not find the directions to move the IOS out of RAM.

I have not had this trouble doing a switch I think that my IOS is not good.

doing it the xmodem way puts the image straight in to flash, it will transfer then you will see it putting it in to flash right after.

You are using this command right?

xmodem -c imagename.bin

I used xmodem -r you think I should be using xmodem -c?

my own dumb error using the -r because I didn't read the material well.

-c worked

but my bonus is extra expierence with ios

i GOT A ios upgrade, 2008 VER12.4 in my free old 2610 from 2002 that had ver 12.1
