I think it's worth it more for an Administrative assistant, not an IT person. Overall, you should be able to use the basic functions of all the Office products, but to be a specialist I think is overkill.

MCDST is all you need to know about office (Basic stuff)... i wouldn't waste the time or money being an expert on office unless you see alot of jobs asking for it...

Thats what i thought, but all the job postings are asking about MS outlook, word and excel, in all my study material for MCSA ive not seen anything for these. But i can see how it would come into play in a office eviroment with servers ect.
I might get a few basics on it, but nothing major i think

I obtain this certification because my prior job payed for it. I was a Software Instructor in the various software applications; to include office. I think its worth obtaining if you will be doing training in this area or providing desktop support. Seeing that you are Microsoft certified for each application makes for good conversation when employeers are looking for desktop support.
By the way MCDST (70-272) and MOS certification requirements are much different via Office application. So if you are a MCDST you will not be able to just walk in and pass the test. Because MCDST looks more at troubleshooting Office application functions/options vs MOS teaches you how to use the application.

In IT, it is assumed that you can use MS Office. My girlfriend has MOUS but she works as a personel manager. Don't waste your time with it.

I'm going to have to agree with evanderburg & say its a waste of time. One good reason is if you are in the IT dept. & spending time working & troubleshooting MS office, something is not right. You need to get out of that situation & leave that for the administrative assistant.

I took the MOUS exams (all 5 of them), but they were only speedbumps on my way to becoming a Microsoft Master Instructor. The MOUS exams themselves were a joke, and I only took them cuz my employer was sponsoring me.
For the Master Instructor, on the other hand, I needed all 5 MOUS certs
and
some sort of teaching credential. I chose to take CTT+ for that one.

Well its been a while since i started this thread and now my new job i have to support Office, dunno if its telling ppl how to make a spreadsheet or what? but i think its maily getting access to the files on the server and having the correct privilieges

I'm going to take a couple of classes in Office so I can know more about them. We get a couple of issues here and there about office products and some of them I can't help them with. So I figured it won't hurt me to learn more about the product.
Just my 2 cents

Look I've taught MOUS OR MOS cetified courses....
I personnelly don't have a cert in any of the courses and in 5 days I learned the whole book and could take any of the tests and pass them with my eyes covered...
Really having the certs always helps it shows your a professional....
But when it comes to the big bucks in the IT field there really underlooked her in Washington DC there looking for you to be certified MOUS as well as have 5 years teaching experieince..... The main focus of this education is to come into fortune 500 companies and train there employees usually for 3 to 5 months and leave.......
No room to move up in the company your a temporary employee. Your ability to teach in this enviroment is only going to be as good as your last.
So focus more on the long run of IT field....
GOOD luck....

I took a class in 10th grade and i learned everything necessasary to become MOS certified. Here i am 2 years later and my same instructor, now teaching me networking, told me that the MOS was a waste of time. He recommended starting with MCP or A+ and working my way up the cert ladder
