Handy Charts

Does anyone have any handy dandy charts they are willing to share? I am really looking for one that matches lpt1 to it's IRQ and stuff like that. Any charts or easy ways to remember things would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
JB

I got this from someone else and it helped a lot, hope it's what you're looking for.

    I/O Addresses

There are 6 addresses, they are all in 3 digit hexadecimal format. Each one ends in the number "8". But the first two hex digits vary with each address. So remember this mnemonic:

    323232FFEE77

Now write the 3s and 2s as a column:

    3
    2
    3
    2
    3
    2

And add the rest as a second column:

    3F
    2F
    3E
    2E
    37
    27

Now add an "8" to the end of each row.

    3F8
    2F8
    3E8
    2E8
    378
    278

That is a list of all 6 addresses. And, in order, they correspond to COM 1,2,3,4 and LPT 1 and 2.

    3F8: COM 1
    2F8: COM 2
    3E8: COM 3
    2E8: COM 4
    378: LPT 1
    278: LPT 2

    So just remember "three-two-three-two-three-two-eff-eff-ee-ee-seven-seven".

Handy thing to remember, and you can quickly write it down on the scratch paper you get for the test before you do the test itself.

Finally, this isn't for the Core and you might not run into it on the OS, but there is a handy mnemonic to remember the order that the core programs of DOS are loaded. The core programs in DOS are IO.SYS, MSDOS.SYS, CONFIG.SYS, COMMAND.COM, and AUTOEXEC.BAT. They load in that order. To remember this, remember the phrase "I'm confused, commented Alice".

    I'm confused commented Alice.

    IO.SYS
    MSDOS.SYS
    CONFIG.SYS
    COMMAND.COM
    AUTOEXEC.BAT
