Boston University M.S. CIS-Sec

Are you currently enrolled in, or a graduate of, the Boston University distance M.S in Computer Information Systems (Security) program?

I'm strongly considering this program and would really appreciate your feedback. Overall Boston U seems to have a really good reputation and the graduate studies department has been really nice to work with. The concern that has been raised to me is that distance education can be a bit of a pain. Having completed my undergrad with UMUC I think I'm pretty well tempered against anything that BlackBoard can throw at me

Any feedback that you might be able to provide would be most welcome.

I've been looking at the BU masters programs as well. Having a masters from BU would certainly be a boost to a resume. The price is not bad either.

They are also an NSA center of academic & research excellence, and have lots of funded security research going on so we should be able to get into some nifty stuff too. The other thing I really like is that they have a distance program, but you're still considered a 'normal' student at BU.

If I get in I plan to make quarterly trips up to campus to meet faculty and team members. This is not required but I think it would be good to sit in on a class or two, play in the lab, and also good to build a professional network. Most other schools seem to just leave you hanging out to dry if you're doing distance, BU seems to just use distance like any other class. I really like that.

All of which sounds great, and is why I'm really interested in student reviews and feedback. Maybe I'm making it out to be better than it really is? I hope not, but it doesn't hurt to ask around.
