Woot! VCP!

Completed my VCP requirement today. Passed the exam back in March. Finished the VMware vSphere: Troubleshooting [V4.x] class today.

Just need to wait for VMware to update their database.

Lots of stuff you need to know for the VCP exam was covered in this class.

Congrats! What made you decide to take the exam before class?

I just took the Advanced Fast Track a couple of weeks ago (Troubleshooting + Performance). I really enjoyed the Troubleshooting material. It actually gave you useful hands on exercises rather than just a "click here and check this box" type labs.

I was building our VMware infrastructure in Jan/Feb, so read a lot of VMware pdfs and watched CBT Nugget series. Figured it was a good time to take the exam while the material was still fresh.

Congrats, I'm doing it in that order as well. I have all the materials I need to pass the test including the lab books from a friend of mine so I'm planning to take the test before the class.

Obviously I haven't taken the test yet but my approach to studying is that I've been following Simon Long's study notes and basically taking each objective and reading it then writing it back down in my own words.

I've also been reading the following books:

I've also used the CBT's from Trainsignal by David Davis and Elias Knauser's stuff as well.

And I've also been reading through all the documentation on VMware's website and reference it when I hit a topic that I don't understand fully. Also I used Mnemosyne to create flash cards of the Configuration Maximums to reinforce those memorization items.

That coupled with my lab should be sufficient to pass the exam I would hope. Some of the books go deeper than VCP and into VCAP but that's my ultimate goal so I'm not overly worried. I like to over-prepare.

Scott's blog looks very good. Also check out CBT Nugget series. It's a nice supplement to all the reading material.
