Is 640-801 and version 3.0 the same thing?

Hello, everyone.

Since this is my first post, I'd like to say, "Nice to meet everyone."

This seems like a cool bunch of people. I especially like the no cheating attitude. So, first let me introduce myself. I first passed the CCNA in 2001 with the idea of eventually getting CCNP, but then I moved to Japan and quit my job in the network industry. After teaching English and busting my ass to learn Japanese as quickly as possible, I am now a professional translator. But, now I want to move back to the US, get back into networking, and do freelance translation on the side.

So, this time I wanna hurry up and retake the CCNA and move on to CCNP right away. I bought a lab on EBAY, but still waiting for it to ship here in Japan.

OK, my question. Looking around on some websites and products like CBTs and such, they don't say 640-801, but rather version 2.0 or 3.0. Are 640-801 and version 3.0 the same? If so, would that make 2.0 the 607 and therefore to be avoided?

Wow. I once was thinking about doing the same thing. Teaching English in a foriegn country. Are you American? I heard the money is decent in Nippon but it is so damn expensive over there. I was thinking more like Thailand than anything else.

Well anyways... getting back to the point... 3.0 is the current 640-801. 2.0 was when they started to initiate sims in the test and everything prior is consider pre-607. Hope that helps.

What routers did you get for your lab?

Hey, thanks for the quick response.

I got 2 2514s and a 2820 switch.

But, I am still waiting for it. It might get stuck at customs. That would suck.

Anyway, about teaching English. I didnt actually want to do it, just did it for the visa, really. If you do it by the hour, you can make 30-40 bucks an hour. But you never get straight back to back classes all day long. You get one class at 10 am, then another at 1, then another at 4, then maybe 2 classes from 7-9. So you've blown your whole day for not really that much money when you consider what time you leave your house and what time you get home. So, just working full time is not bad, since the definition of full time for teaching english is only 5 class hours a day, but the pay isnt so great at 30,000 a year.

30k a year for japan... thats like living on 15k a year in california. Not good! But you must have your reasons! (Japanese women?) LOL

The 2514s are awesome for a starter lab and the 2820 switch... hmmm.. dont know much about them. I started wtih a 2950 switch from the get go so... I dont have much value of opinion going one way or another.

Customs will definitely hold it... it did for me when I was in Yokuska and it cost me an extra few hundred to get it through. But, I had a 9 routers and not just 3 items.
