Cissp eligible?

in SSCP
I keep reading over the guidelines to see whether or not I am eligible for this cert, but I keep getting mixed reviews.
  • I have my Bachelor of Science in Computer and Information Security
  • Security+
  • 4 Years of Work Experience in IT Field (however only 1 year of that is full time so far as I was in school for the other 3 and worked part time)
  • I have decent experience in three of the 10 domains although this isnt my primary "role" in my current position as an Tier 2 IT Support Specialist I am involved in much of the planning / development of these domains at our company.
- Access Control
- Operations Security
- Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery

What do you guys think? Still not enough to go for the CISSP?

All I can determine from their site is you need 5 years experience in security, or 4 years experience with B.Sc degree.

I want to shoot high here for CISSP but if I must...I guess i'll go for SSCP if I wouldnt come close to passing an audit if I were selected. Read another post in here of a fellow who got audited and couldnt prove 60 Months of work in field because he was part time.

    The (ISC)2 wants proof of five years of full-time InfoSec work experience (four years with a 4-year degree or specific certification). You can take the CISSP exam any time, but you won't be fully CISSP-certified until you meet all of the other requirements.

    Darn, that just shatters my dreams! Well... I do qualify for the SSCP! Guess I have to start somewhere! icon_twisted.gif

    Or wait...can I take the CISSP, then 4 years down the road have them evaluate me so I can proove that I now have all the requirements and then become a CISSP? 'officially'? lol

    There is no experience requirement to take the CISSP exam. If you take and pass it before you have the required 4-5 years, you will become an "Associate of ISC2 for CISSP". I want to say you can remain an associate for up to 6 years while you build experience to submit your application for full endorsement.

    Until you have the experience and endorsement you can't list the CISSP credential on your resume.

    For DoD purposes, all you need is the Associate designation. I'm applying for full endorsement, but if they didn't like the experience I listed for some reason, the Associate will still fulfill my requirement.

    A typical pattern for someone in a new InfoSec job is the Security+, followed by the SSCP, and then the CISSP.

    I have the feeling that theres going to be a lot of overlap between Security+ and SSCP...am I right in that assumption? I've have the SSCP CBT nuggets available through work that I can use along with the ISC2 book although the book got some iffy reviews?     It looks like Darril Gibson is relasing an SSCP book in November

    I may hold out for that one....I know he got good reviews for his Security+ book

    No, the SSCP is a mid-level cert with more technical subjects and complex questions. It's definitely a level above the Security+. You can always use Security+ material to help you study for the SSCP exam.
