1760's worth it for just CCENT and CCNA

So, I am renewing my CCNA (doing the ICND 1 and 2 route) and after reading wendell's blog on routers for the 2011 ccna he is recommending the 1760

Cisco Cert Zone: CCNA Lab Series Part 6: The Best Router for CCNA, 2011

I was amazed at the prices on these and if they provide the needed functionality for the CCENT and CCNA then I am really thinking of getting a few.

currently I scored 1 3550 EMI 48port , 2 3550 SMI 24 port (going to upgrade these to EMI when they arrive) and I had not planned on getting this many 3550's, but nobody else bid and they ended at weird hours and were in the wrong sections on ebay, plus I can use them for the CCNP if I feel so inclined and I am looking at several 2610XM 's and 1760's , but wary on teh 1760 if I can or can't use it for the ccnp, but I am thinking I could at least use them for ccna voice and load with CM express.

I was thinking of getting a couple of the 1760's and 1 2610XM and load them up with 12.4 ....

what say you?

I'm building my CCNP lab, and the 1760's were recommended as well. They run 12.4T which is the IOS needed for the CCNP.

There are older and newer 1760's. I was told to look for the ones with the black square with the white letters 32 above the ethernet jack. This shows it can be upgraded for the flash and ram then the older ones.

thanks for the heads up on the 32 sticker.... luckily the ones I am looking at all have that sticker.

also, looks like I just one a maxed out 2650 on ebay for 40 bucks to add to the rack.... ebay has been good to me this week. just need to get a few of the 1760's and 2610XM's and start building some cables and I will be good to go...

And even some of the ones without the "32" on them can take the extra amount of ram (two of mine did - max out at 144MB ram).

Also 1761's or 1760v's but can be a bit more expensive.

If you don't have as much space could go for the 1721's or 1751's
(not 1720 or 1750 as limited in upgrade on amount of flash)

    Nice score!!

Just updating one of mine at the moment (one of the old 1760's -maxes out at 144MB ram - 128MB + 16MB onboard)

Cisco 1760 (MPC860P) processor (revision 0x200) with 131072K/16384K bytes of mem
    ory.
Processor board ID VMS06220V8K (564664447), with hardware revision BB67
    MPC860P processor: part number 5, mask 2
    1 FastEthernet interface
    2 Serial(sync/async) interfaces
    1 ATM interface
    32K bytes of NVRAM.
32768K bytes of processor board System flash (Read/Write)

    Configuration register is 0x2102

And just off in a bit to pick up another one from the post office.
    supposed to be a 96MB/32MB with 2x wic2t.
Hopefully 32MB base ram so can drop in a 128MB to get 160MB
