Do you hang your certifications/diploma's in your home office or bedroom?

I know this may sound crazy, but do you guy's hang your certifications or diploma's whether it be high school, community college, or from a 4 year college on your wall in your home office or bedroom?

I have my A+ certification hanging along with my high school diploma in my bedroom where I can look and say I have accomplished something in life. I am hoping to have my AA in IT-Technical Support as well as another certificate as a Micro-Computer Support specialist be hanging right next to them by the end of this year.

Do you guy's think I am crazy or do many of you do this as well? Also, what do you do when friends or family members come in and look in your room? I just tell them I am trying not to brag, but this is for myself.

I look at it as a moral booster, and it tells me that I can do anything I set my mind to.

I think it's a good idea, I've been meaning to hang my A+ cert on the wall in front of my desk.

Not really...maybe if I get something like the CCIE. But for stuff like the MCITP, CCNA or CCNP, I view them as

a way to validate my knowledge
tools to get jobs. Am I glad I have them? sure...but I don't go around telling other techs "hey, I'm a MCITP, CCNA, and soon to be CCNP!"

I have a different mindset than you do. I don't get motivated by looking at my accomplishments. I get motivated by looking at things I've yet to accomplished!

No all mine (trade certificate - Avionics, private pilots license, course completion certs , etc) all reside in a folder in the darkest deepest recess of my filing cabinet.

Will be the same for my degrees when I complete them next year (four subjects next year plus the two I'm doing this semester - 11 years part time so far) and will be the same for ccna etc.

I have it all in my room. I dont have any certs hang at work. The only certs that I will be hanging is CCIE.

When I find appropriately sized frames, i'll hang up my CEH and CPT. If I ever get a GIAC cert, you can bet your butt itll get hung up.

They are sitting in a folder. Hang your CCIE or Masters/PhD in your house. I would never hang anything at work. Your work ethic / skillset should be on display at the office not your credentials.

I have my Security+ on the wall as it was my first cert and at the time I thought I was going to be getting a great job. Now I'm just too lazy to take it down lol. My CEH is in the envelope it came in, dunno where my CCENT is, MPSC is somewhere on my desk, and my college degree is in the UPS folder it came in. Never felt the need to hang any of them up as like others have said, they were just paper and the knowledge is the important stuff. Also, where I work no one hangs them up or includes them in their signatures (or even talks about having them). We support doctors, nurses, and behavioral people who just love putting initials in their signatures and that peeves me most times. I especially like when we get support calls from onsite techs (work for the customer, not us) asking to change the name on a router or assign a vlan, then ask how we went about doing it. All while having Network Administrator in their job title and CCNA in the signature! I plan on getting my Masters and perhaps the PhD someday, I might hang those up.

I only have 2 certificates hanging at work. One is my CCNA and that is only as a motivation/dig at one of my office mates. The one I am really proud of is my Red Cross 8 gallon blood donor cert. 2 more pints and it gets replaced with a 9 gallon cert. I encourage all of you to give blood, it saves lives.

Not to take the thread in a different direction but this reminded me of a time a guy we were working with a guy that had his CCNA as part of his signature block and had his phone number written in binary. Only the binary was wrong..and we called him out on it and replied to his group distribution list where he works

Yeah. I don't hang any certs on my desk at work. I am talking about at home people. Since I just got promoted from Desktop Technician 1 to Help Desk Tier 1, I am still in training. So I do not even have a desk at work yet.

I'm not sure why there are a lot of people here talking about hanging their certs and degrees up at work. That's not what the OP's question was. It was "Do you hang your certifications/diplomas in your HOME OFFICE or BEDROOM". I see absolutely nothing wrong with this. I do it myself. Every single certification and degree I've earned, except for my highschool diploma, is up on the wall in my computer room/office/man cave. I agree that it's a little tacky to have them up at work and just comes off as bragging, but it's different if it's in the privacy of one of the rooms in your house. There are people who have whole rooms dedicated to their trophies and other accomplishments, so what's wrong with hanging up some certifications on your office wall too? I'm very proud of my accomplishments and like to see my progression. If it motivates you too, I say go for it. Oh, and BTW I usually buy the cheap 3 dollar frames at Walmart. It still looks good though

I've never heard of someone hanging their diploma in their bedroom.

I have them hanging in my computer room at home. I also have some of them displayed at work as that seems to be the norm where I work.

I have an 8 year old and a 3 year old.

My pride of the physical certification went out the window when my son got into my filing cabinet and tore up my ITIL OSA. Nevermind the fact he left the folder full of useless insurance information alone.

I have pictures of my family and various decorations on the walls. The certs/degrees for both my wife and I are tucked away in a folder or wrapped in bubble wrap in the closet (diploma frames).

I used to have coworkers who would plaster every certification or course completion on their wall. I've learned over the years that by not publicizing your credentials you can claim ignorance when you don't want to be bothered with working on certain topics. It helps to avoid the "jack of all trades, master of none."

My girlfriend and I both have our Degrees hanging in our house in the hallway. We are both proud that we accomplished the goal of graduating college. It's also there to show my daughter that she can succeed and go to college when she gets old enough (she's 13 now). I also hope that it will show our son (He's almost 4 months) that he can go to college and succed too when he gets old enough.

I hang my certifications up at work.

I have my MCP, MCDST, HDI SCA and Network+ certifications push pinned to the wall of my cubicle. "Why?" I'm sure more than a few of you are asking.

1) It motivates me to keep going and to do better. I know that I'm not happy having just a Network+, I want to have my CCNP. But seeing that Network+ reminds me of where I am and what I need to do to get where I need to be.

2) I'm the only technician in my office that is certified. It doesn't mean that I'm better than the rest of the techs, but I do know that my knowledge and my skill set covered by my job duties are validated by vendor certifications, and I encourage my co-workers that seek to continue on in the IT field to follow my example.

Anyway, wherever people do (or don't) hang up their certifications is probably based on an individual's personal preference. I don't put worth into pieces of paper (like money, diplomas or certs), but they can still take you places.

I dont hang any of my certifications or College degree. (My mother has my college degree hanging at her house). They all stay in a file with the wallet cards.

I have my undergrad diploma sitting on top of the hutch on my desk at home... that's about it.

Bedroom. Initially because I just needed somewhere to keep them. Now I just keep adding them because I can.

I do have a second copy of my MCSE at my desk but I never actually got around to hanging it. Seemed like bragging too much so now it is piled under a bunch of papers.

But seriously, work is the last thing I want to bring into my bedroom...

The only way I'd display anything was if I had a work office and certifications or degrees that were actually worth displaying. I don't generally look at anything I've done as a major accomplishment compared to what I plan to do.

No. But when I do get my CCIE I will buy a decent bomber jacket and have the old logo imprinted on it with my number. I shall also change my number plate in HEX.

The original bomber jackets sucked!
