OK, so there is no show ip bgp neighbors brief command. Unless Cisco just added that without telling me.
A decent substitute is sh ip bgp neighbors | inc nei
Try it if you like, it has helped me with BGP labbing.

show ip bgp summary
Good point. Gives the same info (and more) and is something you'd likely be tested on (unlike my custom command).
