To connect a PC running terminal emulation software to the console port, use the RJ-45 roll-over cable with the female RJ-45-to-DB-9 adapter (labeled Terminal).

QHalo Member Posts: 1,488This is what you need in conjuction with the blue Cisco rollover cable. There are probably cheaper models but this one is one that I've used and worked just fine.

Thank you QHalo! But this stuff looks pricey. And I still need another RJ-45-DB9 adapter? The two adapters could cost me more than the router ... -
QHalo Member Posts: 1,488I don't follow what you mean. You have a blue Cisco rollover cable right? A rollover cable is dirt cheap on eBay. That adapter connects right into the rollover cable.

If you work in IT, go ask a networking guy if they have extras. Typically those rollover cables are a dime a dozen and networking guys have tons laying around.
The adapter, if you're gettting into networking at all going forward, is a worthy investment. Try finding a laptop with a Serial port these days. Not happening. -
