Man it is my goal to get the CCIE. How much money can I get with the cert?

Im already working and have about 9 months experience though right now trying to get a better job. the applications I support deal with so much accounting and stocks and bonds (i work for Suntrust Bank) that Im losing my IT based knowledge. Im dying to get out.

So how much money can you get with CCIE?

It doesnt matter how much certs you have, ie CCIE, but how much experience you have in that particular area. I would start by looking into cisco certs and start some entry level career with your cisco cert and move on up.
    What next?

I have three friends with varying backgrounds that received their CCIE.

1st guy... young very little work experience... he went from tech school to Cisco school, to bootcam to bootcamp until he got his CCIE after the third try. He started out with a telephone company for 95K per year in California. Now, 3 years later... he is making 125k.

2nd guy... very senior network guy... 1st year as a CCIE he started out at 145k.

3rd guy... ME!!! Ill tell you in a few years how much I first start out with. icon_redface.gif

Just curious when you get your CCIE, do you do pure router/switch configuration? Or do you actually do network administration?

    AWESOME JUST AWESOME.

CCNA, CCNP then CCSP or CCIE.

not sure, after the CCNP i might go for the CCIE or get the CCSP instead because i am interested in security.

hmmmmm only 5% of CCIE security specialist.

Wow so the first guy got that much with only a little experience. How long did it take for him to get his CCIE? Also how much experience did he have and in what? Did he also have a degree?

He was 20 yrs old and he only had 2+ some years experience in the IT field. It took him 2 years to get his CCIE on the second try.

    Sorry... I meant third try.

QUIX0TIC I have one more question for you. What sort of job did your friend get? Everytime I see a CCIE needed for a job they also require 5-7 years experience or management experience, etc. Just trying to see what is possible for the future :D

    that makes him "average"

Average? I dont understand the comment but sure, I guess. To me the guy is a smart and strong willed person. Instead of going out and f-ing around (like I did at that age) he decided to buckle down and finish his CCIE while he was finishing up college.

So average... because he passed on his third try... sure! But, he is an average CCIE in which is above me!

To the other person who asked where he went to work... Verizon Wireless picked him up. They were asking for 5+ years of experience but they waved it when he produced his CCIE.

There are some people who are just brilliant, (damn them.) I feel pretty confident, and I can pick things up pretty quickly, but I have a couple of friends who are absolute information-sponges. One of which, by the way, is CCIE, and the bastard got it on the first try. He's 25, and I'm probably going to kill him and steal his identity. . . seriously, though, some people can breeze through things the rest of us have to struggle with.

Me, on the other hand. . . I'm a semi-sponge, so I just have to do that "work" stuff to get ahead, but I'm very, very, very lazy. . . besides, I'm busy studying for my entry-level-drunkard cert. . .
