Alcatel-Lucent Routers?

filkenjitsufilkenjitsu Member Posts: 564 ■■■■□□□□□□
I will be changing job functions at the service provider where I work very soon as they have restructured our organization. I will be moving to a group that supports ALU cell site routers and the larger aggregate routers on the network.

Anyone have any experience with these routers? I have already ordered all of the books and will be working towards certification:

The Alcatel-Lucent Service Routing Certification (SRC) Program is designed to teach the skills and knowledge individuals need for building and supporting today’s advanced IP/MPLS network and service environments. The program gives you the training required to design, operate and troubleshoot these new networks, allowing your company to get the most from its investment in IP service routing and your customers to enjoy the highest possible quality of experience.
All Alcatel-Lucent SRC courses are instructor-led by highly trained IP/MPLS subject matter experts. In addition to lectures, each course devotes significant time to hands-on lab training and exercises to ensure that students gain proficiency in configuration, provisioning and trouble shooting. SRC participants will gain the skills, confidence and credibility to work in complex network environments and will be well positioned to help their company and customer succeed in this exciting world of advanced IP communications and collaboration.
The five levels of SRC Certification are:
Alcatel-Lucent Network Routing Specialist I (NRS I)
Alcatel-Lucent Network Routing Specialist II (NRS II)
Alcatel-Lucent Mobile Routing Professional (MRP)
Alcatel-Lucent Triple Play Routing Professional (3RP)
Alcatel-Lucent Service Routing Architect (SRA)

    Hi filkenjitsu,
I have worked with the Alcatel Lucent 7705 SAR, it's not a big difference from Cisco or Juniper, the same technology applies to every vendor.
However as for the the ALU 7670 ESE & RSP, those are very different from the 7705 because they care a lot of traffic, Line Cards and other kind of cards, multiple shelfs and what sounds strange to me was the different Operating Systems between different series of ALU, e.x: the 7705 has the TimOS as operating system, but the 7670 has some other OS, which makes it more harder to learn both of them for a short time.

ALU 7670 is most used on RAN and MTSO of a carrier network, however It wouldnt surprise me if we see it deployed on other infrastructures.
From my experience I would say that the more vendors equipment you know the better you understand the technology.. if you want more detailed infos about 7670 or 7705 please PM I can help you more about it.

Sounds like the 7670 is probably the ALU RNC(Radio Network Controller) for cellular data as it uses line cards/processors and is located at the MTSO. It may not be a true router hence it having a different OS.

The 7750 I will be supporting is a much bigger router than the 7705.

Actually it isn't a RNC eventhough it is located at the MTSO, the RNC's we are using are from Ericsson, anyway we use 7670 as a Multi Service Node, it supports a lot of T1's, T3's, Ethernet, GigabitEthernet, and much more.

Cool, thanks for clarifying. We also use RNCs from Ericsson on our network, the RNC9000 and RNC8600.

    Rinoel (or filkenjitsu ),

I have been tasked with learning how to configure an Alcatel-Lucent 7705 SAR, would you happen to have any guides or MOPs that could help walk me through this task?
