Hello,
I have the following equipment:
2x 2600 routers, which each have WIC Cards.
2950 switch
2520 swith.
2 DTE/DCE cables
4 x power cable --- These have been plugged in---
1 console cable
1 utp cat 5e cable
And I know that I need to use the console cable to connect to my laptop to configure everything, but I am not sure how to connect the other cables and hardware, please help.
Thanks

Optionsciscoman2012 Member Posts: 313Well first you need to see if the WIC cards for the routers take the Serial DB60 connection, or the Smart Serial (the smaller serial) connection, or if they use RJ45 cables.

Plug in console cable, start up a terminal program ( hyper terminal, terra term etc) give it the correct settings for serial port ,baud rate etc -com x ,9600 no parity 8 bit, no flow control
power up the router or switch and watch the boot messages start scrolling
Make sure it's the console port not aux
remember how Cisco numbers slots and ports
Look up how to send a break with the terminal program you are using in case you need to do a password recovery(if it's equipment you haven't used befo) or load an updated ios if updating from inside iOS dosn't work
Grab a few lab guides/work books and have fun!Goals CCNA by dec 2013, CCNP by end of 2014 -

No problem and if I remember right Alxx originally showed me most of those in another thread I had!
Anyways, I've really enjoyed the Subnet192 ICND1 lab guide as it is quite fun to work through. I've been using packet tracer to do most of it until I am able to set up my lab. -
