System Analyst Information

I recently obtain my Bachelor Degree in MIS as well as the A+, network+ and Security+ certification. My question is I want to become a System Analyst; what are some recommendation you guys can give me to be able to land a job with that title/or prepare for it. At the moment I'm an intern with an energy company in the IT department for 6 months now. My intern should be coming to an end soon because I just graduated from college. Any information would be helpful.

I think you're meaning System Analyst. IMO a System Analyst is more of an experienced/senior role. If you can break into the IT field as a System Analyst than great, but you'll likely have to start in the trenches in either a Helpdesk/DST role or maybe catch a break and get a Jr. System Admin position.

Your best bet would be to try and get hired on at the company you're an intern for. As long as you've proven yourself and have a solid work ethic it shouldn't be too hard given they have the budget to hire someone.

Yeah; spelling error, I gotta proofread before submitting it lol. Unfortunately, the company I'm interning does not have any position opening right now or anytime soon. They said I can stay as long as I want but it would be an Intern title and I have to start paying off the loan I took out for school as well as living expense.

It all depends on the company. I remember a few years back my company changed the title for sys admins to systems analysts. Last year they changed it back. Not sure why they did this... It had to be about money.

I'm currently a "Systems Analyst" and (to me at least) it's just another name for Systems Administrator.

I agree that the wording in job titles at some companies is all about money. One company I worked at, everyone on the infrastructure end of IT, be it helpdesk, telecom, network, servers, operations, were all "Support Analyst", with the exception of a couple "Sr. Support Analyst". I was never more underpaid than I was at that job.

Many times, Systems Administrator == Systems Analyst == Systems Engineer, when you compare between companies.

At my company we are "Analyst I" or "Analyst II" or of course, "Analyst III" as far as official paycheck titles go

This is true...I am a Systems Analyst @ my company and it was a more developmental role. Check out my topic regarding this here. I was able to move into this role right after graduating. Now I am doing a lot of tasks outside of what you see on the post (i.e Web Development, Web Apps, SharePoint and a couple other things. Even though after attaining these new roles I believe my title should be something else now and not just "Systems Analyst I".....lol
