SQL Server 2012 Certs (who is taking?)

RobertKaucherRobertKaucher Member Posts: 4,299 ■■■■■■■■■■
Is anyone else planning on taking the SQL Server 2012 DBA or Developer exams when they hit beta?

I'm studying the 2008 Developer exam right now in prep for the beta certs. I figure I will just make sure I am well studied on the 2008 material based on the objectives and then add in the new features. I'm also studying for MCPD: Web Developer 2010, so I am not too sure if I am going to take the DBA exams when they hit beta or not. I really want to, though. I was lazy in 2011. Should have done the the SharePoint Admin MCITP at the least, but my time is so damn short.

I plan on pursuing some. I'm aware of the seven exams, but I haven't been able to identify how they'll be packaged as MCITP certs. I expect to pursue 461 during the beta stage but may not do 462 until the live exam comes out in June.

Here are the 7 exams I know about.
70-461 Querying Microsoft SQL Server 2012
70-462 Administering Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Databases
70-463 Implementing a Data Warehouse with Microsoft SQL Server 2012
70-464 Developing Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Databases
70-465 Designing Database Solutions for SQL Server 2012
70-466 Implementing Data Models and Reports with Microsoft SQL Server 2012
70-467 Designing Business Intelligence Solutions with Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Platform

I'm wondering if they'll end up like the following tracks. This is just a guess based on the numbering and names of the exams. I can't find a verification anywhere.

    MCITP Database Administrator 2012
    • 70-461 Querying Microsoft SQL Server 2012
    • 70-462 Administering Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Databases
    MCITP Database Developer 2012
    • 70-461 Querying Microsoft SQL Server 2012
    • 70-463 Implementing a Data Warehouse with Microsoft SQL Server 2012
    • 70-464 Developing Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Databases
    MCITP Business Intelligence Developer 2012
    • 70-461 Querying Microsoft SQL Server 2012
    • 70-465 Designing Database Solutions for SQL Server 2012
    • 70-466 Implementing Data Models and Reports with Microsoft SQL Server 2012
    • 70-467 Designing Business Intelligence Solutions with Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Platform
Since the BI is more advanced, it's possible they may not include the 461 in the track, but I'm not sure.

My new position has no SQL responsibilities, I'm not even allowed into the SQL servers of the applications that I own anymore. So I probably won't be taking the 2012 exams anytime soon. I might go ahead and do the 2008 since I was pretty close to being ready for the MCTS, though.
    IT guy since 12/00

Recent: 11/2019 - RHCSA (RHEL 7); 2/2019 - Updated VCP to 6.5 (just a few days before VMware discontinued the re-cert policy...)
    Working on: RHCE/Ansible
Future: Probably continued Red Hat Immersion, Possibly VCAP Design, or maybe a completely different path. Depends on job demands...
