VCP slam dunk

After two previously failed attempts at the 410 I passed both the 410 and 510 today. That is a rough exam if you don't study the right stuff. I don't like all of their questions either, I feel the Microsoft exams do a better job of testing whether you can administrator or design. I started off using the Sybex VCP on vSphere 4 study guide and found that to be worthless (read the reviews later unfortunately) and then used Mastering vSphere 4 which came highly recommended. I wasn't quite as impressed with it, I felt that it really glossed over some areas i.e. boot from SAN config and requirements. After the first 2 fails I got smart and broke out the white papers. That's definitely the best resource out there. Plenty of detailed information. Works best when combined with a good lab environment. Now back to enjoying a celebratory bowl of ramen before getting back to work.

I totally agree about some of the questions being more trivia and less about being able to understand and manage the environment. After experiencing the previous two versions, this time I pretty much exclusively used the white papers and the exam blueprint. Best resource out there to tie up those loose ends.IT guy since 12/00
Recent: 11/2019 - RHCSA (RHEL 7); 2/2019 - Updated VCP to 6.5 (just a few days before VMware discontinued the re-cert policy...)
Working on: RHCE/Ansible
Future: Probably continued Red Hat Immersion, Possibly VCAP Design, or maybe a completely different path. Depends on job demands... -

Interesting. I always felt Microsoft exams were extremely artificial and didn't relate to production environment.2018 Certification Goals: Maybe VMware Sales Cert

The DCD exam is being taken by beta takers at the moment, in theory it should be 6 weeks or so until it goes live. DCA has not had it's beta process yet, nor do I know when that begins.VCP2 / VCP3 / VCP4 / VCP5 / VCAP4-DCA / VCI / vExpert 2010-2012

Unfortunately I'll probably never have a chance to do them. I currently work in a XenServer and Hyper-V world. Very little VMware.Jumping on the IT blogging band wagon -- http://www.jefferyland.com/ -

Good information to know. What filters did you use for searching for white papers for VCP 5?Currently reading: Start with Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action -
undomiel Member Posts: 2,818Just went to their site and started downloading documentation: VMware vSphere Documentation
And from the technical papers section I grabbed everything from vSphere 5, vMotion, vCenter and maybe a few others.Jumping on the IT blogging band wagon -- http://www.jefferyland.com/
