IT Related Community Outreach Ideas
Hi all.
I am part of a Community Outreach Committee at work and this coming quarter we are participating in an Adopt-a-School program. Since I am in IT, I was wondering if anyone has done anything like this before and may have some suggestions as to what an IT person can offer for situations like this?
The school we are in contact with is an elementary school and they have never really been part of such a program so their requests have been fairly... open.
The school district has also been fairly quiet according to our lead so most of the ideas would have to come from us rather than taking direction from the school district itself.
For higher grade levels I've seen programs done regarding various computer awareness classes that focus on a specific topic like cyber bullying, but for elementary school kids, the options seem kinda limited.
Anyways, let me know what you guys think!
Thanks.

Police departments have these safety programs that they give in schools. Community adult education programs also have Internet usage and safety classes for adults and the elderly. You could look at the syllabi for these classes and get an idea of the curriculum you would need to develop.

Check out Cissp | Isc2 Certification | Security Training | Exam Dates | Cash Advance at Isc2.com and click on the social responsibilitu link. Also, there was a agency in the US government that developed several programs specifically for what you mentioned. I remember going to a talk about it. I will see if I can find those materials and names.
