Rebooting VTP devices

After reboot, my switches, client and server) retained their VLAN info (vlan.dat) and VTP configuration -- without copying run to start. Weird.

ok. Couple of questions.

#1 do switches in server and client mode periodically send out summary advertisements? or is it only servers?

I know if something changes then a summary advertisement is sent out immediately regardless of mode.

#2 what happens when a client switch is rebooted?

Does it send out a summary advertisement or does it wait to receive a summary advertisement? or does it send out a request?

When you make a change to vlans or vtp it will be automatically saved in vlan.dat even if no copy run start is given, thats why your switches still had the new vlan info when they restarted.

Servers and clients will send out summary advertisements every 5 minutes.

When a client is rebooted (which causes trunk to come down and up) the client will send an advertisement request immediately to get VTP messages.

Also does this mean it will send both a request and summary? (as summary is sent when changes are made)
