Help setting up ICS

OK, I have a WinXP machine w/ 2 NICs.
NIC#1 connects me to the Internet.
NIC#2 connects my LAN to the XP box.
I enabled ICS on NIC#1
which assigned the 192.168.0.1 IP to NIC#2,
but when I connect a laptop to NIC#2, it does not pull an IP or even get a signal.
It shows "cable disconnected."
The cable is fine, because these machines communicate fine when used in a workgroup to share resources.
Any ideas?
Oh, and the laptop is configured for DHCP.

Optionseurotrash Member Posts: 817did you try refreshing/renewing the laptop's ip?
is the laptop connected directly to the desktop, or to the LAN?
did you make sure there is no firewall on NIC 2?
and, with the laptop connected, what is the current IP and gateway of the laptop?witty comment -

I've made similar mistakes in the past. I remember how I felt when I realized I had used the wrong cables on my wireless router and DSL modem.
