Certification hierarchy

This may be a stupid question, but I'm curious. I have seen posts on here periodically that mention a particular certification as a low/beginning level and another as a mid or higher level certification. I understand that within one provider that certifications are ranked, i.e. CCENT -> CCNA -> CCNP, etc.

Single provider certifications are easy to figure out. What I'm trying to figure out is how inter-provider certifications stack up (escpecially in the security arena)? I know that CISSP is a higher level certification. But, how does one compare Security+, CCNA Security, C|EH, CASP, SSCP, and all the others? Just curious.
