Passed Cisco Data Centre Specialist Exam (DCUCD)

Passed the UCS / DC specialist exam with 898.

Been working on Nexus and UCS designs for about 18 months, so mainly on the job knowledge and training videos from Cisco PEC.

It's the first specialist cert I've got, but after doing the exam the constant checking of ucs b-series and c-series form factors and additional parts on the data sheets when spec'ing up solutions for customers helped massively.

I'd suggest anyone sitting this exam used the data sheets....I also used the Ciscopress UCS book which is old hat now the new gen servers are being released andanew revision is being released in June 2013. I doubt Cisco will test on the new technologies unless they revise the exam so know your c200, 210 and B series well.

It is also important to understand Cisco Nexus 5k and 7k and the features they provide.

    Congrats.

How are the specialist exams compared to the main certs like CCNA?

    Cheers.

Compared to the CCNA and CCNP exams this one was not easy but it was multiple choice so in my opinion it was easier, saying that you need to know your stuff and couldn't just try it off the cuff. It was a design exam so I would compare it more to the CCDA than the NA or NP.

I found the CCNP exams much more difficult and I done my CCNA in 2005!

You need to have knowledge of the products and their capabilities for the specialist design exams. Know the data sheets and product capabilities.

I would imagine for the support specialist exams you need to know about the configuration, however I'd be surprised if Cisco have sims for every support specialist exams as that's a load of development for a load of exams. I would imagine those have configs on the screen and they ask you for the best solution multi choice but I don't know as I've not sat any other specialist certs.

I'm going to do the Storage Design Specialist exam next, where there is video training on Cisco PEC for that exam (DCSNS). I've only skimmed the surface of Storage from a design perspective and never implemented it personally, so that will be a challenge for me but I've been asked to obtain this certification for work, so needs to be done and there is training material available!

This looks very similar to the new Brocade Ethernet Fabric certification which I will be doing next year after I get the intro certs done. We almost bought the Nexus switch but wen't with Brocade, otherwise I would be doing this cert.
