How to transition from dead helpdesk to IT Security professional?

I do contract work here and there for help desk but want to be IT Sec pro, its hard when I dont have exp. just self taught knowledge

    Most employers won't care whether your certifications and degrees derived from self-study or from good teachers--they'll just care what you know, and what you can "prove" you know on a resume. If you meant to say you have the knowledge but no degrees or certifications, by all means, go to a testing center next week and you can clear up that problem.

    If you don't have the knowledge to do that and no experience, it's hard to imagine an employer to taking a chance on you over others just now--training time!
