VCP 5 prep using vSphere 5.1

Evening all, just setting up a lab to get ready for sitting my VCP 5 exam in a few weeks and when I register for the 60 day trial download on VMWare.com you now get version 5.1. Far as I know the exam is still based on 5? Is there a way of getting the prior release, ie. 5 or do I just go with 5.1?

If the exam is still 5.0 then I'd go with it. 5.1 is almost a different release.

Once signed in to download your copy - you can choose which version you want.

At the moment the exam is based on 5.0, but it will be updated in the next few weeks to make it 5.x - at that point it won't make any difference whether you study/use 5.0 or 5.1.

Cool thanks folks, do you know Scott anything more precise than the next few weeks? I am aiming at Dec 14th for exam and if its changing before that I'd need to be running 5.1...? Thanks

Nothing more specific, all I can suggest is to keep checking the VCP5-DV page and the blueprint: VCP-Datacenter Virtualization

But if you re-read my previous reply, the exam becomes 5.x so no you won't need to be running 5.1 - either 5.0 or 5.1 will do...

That would mean though that the exam would never include things like SSO as this is 5.1 and someone studying 5.0 wouldn't even know what that is? Am I missing something? So surely the right way would be studying 5.1 and not 'either would be fine' ?

Yeah I was going to reply with the same thing. 5.1 has some significant changes that you can only know having used it to study with.

What Scott is saying is the exam is currently based on 5.0. It is being updated to be 5.x. In essence, this means that any question posed on the exam would have the same answer whether you are running 5.0 or 5.1. You'll have to check the blueprint once it's released, but unless it specifically states something that was new in 5.1, the questions would apply to either version.
