Found *this * interesting little test on the Cisco website. Have a go at it. While it probably isn't practical, it was interesting for a few minutes.

I friend just linked me this teat... 42 minutes ago, But I was busy dealing with coughing, sneezing, coworkers. Some of the questions just stomped me.

I actually just ran through the test choosing 'I don't know' for every answer to find out how long it would take me. I'm feeling lazy right now...

92 over all, over analysed the cryptic message question for a while, but as soon as i looked for the simple solution i got it.

I over did it on the cryptic message as well at first. It didn't help that I was at work... though I doubt it hurt much, either.

Innovativeness is based on how you answered the first 10 questions. Analytical is based on the remaining 20. They average the two together

The Symbol question was the one that bothered me the most. (the one with the letter "C" back to back, then transformed.) I couldn't for the life of me figure it out. I just sat there for 2 or 3 minutes thinking: "WTF are these, hieroglyphics?"

Got a 90 - 80 on analytic reasoning, and 100 on innovativeness. Not bad for 7:30AM and a half cup of coffee thus far.

91 overall, 90 on innovativenes, 92 on analytic. The innovativeness is cheese, though. Everyone knows what the "right" answer is, but I was honest. Of course the test is looking for someone that always updates their plans and immediately changes mindset once new information comes to light. The truth is that everyone has some bias in holding to their own solutions at times, even if other solutions might be better. Human nature is what it is. Yes, it can be overcome, but I've yet to meet any successful individuals that don't have a streak of pride. Some call it self-confidence, but whatever you call it, that bias exists.

Anyway, it was interesting, so thanks for sharing it.

@About7Narwhal: That question was simply sequential letters of the alphabet back to back. C, then D, then E, then... etc. The C wasn't transformed, it was replaced by the next letter. No big deal, I struggled with some that were probably obvious to others, as well.

Went fairly quickly and got 86, though I'm not sure how this test determines how you will fair in the networking field. I understand what they were trying to do, but it felt more like some sort of college placement test.

I got a 81 in Innovativeness but my Analytical skills got hammered, Those pictures just confused me at the end and I gave up

Seems like I need to retake some Math courses! I should eat some breakfast and try again.

Sadly taking maths won't help, the purpose of these tests is to determin problem solving skills, they form the basics of
things like the IQ tests and there very nature means you can't practice to get better. None of the questions required any more than very basic numeracy skills.

I thought Math and Logic courses improve your ability to troubleshoot / problem solve? Expand your mind. O well

LoL. You can practice skills to improve your IQ score. The mind is like a muscle in that sense. The more you flex and exercise it, the better it will be at solving puzzles. I agree that practicing math won't do much in this case but problem solving skills can be improved on quite easily

Well after eating and waking up my analytical skills jumped 20 points! Innovative went up to 83. Overall 70 (better than before). Some of the problems near the end I could not find the solution to solve it but the others I did. I remember back in high school we actually had a class for problem solving and how to develop those skills. I see now that my problem is I put to much focus on false syllogisms and being distracted by stuff that isn't important.

Also, for the heck of it I googled one of the questions after I was done and it was the same question from an IQ test back in 2000 lol.

IQ is a standardised test, it's purpose is not to test you current skill level but your potential, an Aproved IQ test, should give the same score throughout you life ( +/- 10 points) after the age of about 10 to 13. Assuming you don't take the exact same paper twice, it is not possible to practice to improve your IQ.

It was incorrect of me to say "problem solving skills", as analytical skills are not the same thing. Approaches to problem solving can be improved, you are correct, but analytical skills are how you brain processes info, like some people have musical minds and some mathematical, others have analytical minds.

I stand corrected about the IQ thing (researched it after the fact. Ih well)Crystallized intelligence develops until the age of 26 usually so it can continue to change but IQ tests are not necessarily always an indication of intelligence either way and this test wasn't an IQ test by any means. Problem solving definitely can be improved though and thus the results for this test.

I will take it later when I have time. I tried the first few and it seemed to be the questions where people usually answer what they wish they were rather than what they really are so I am trying to be realistic when answering them.
