You can't use second shot with the free voucher. Learn as much as you can from the study guides! Can you reschedule it for two weeks from now? That might be enough time.

    Great reference and advice!

I'm a front-end developer and at this time only interested in taking this one exam (70-480 - Programming in HTML5 with JavaScript and CSS3

As I understand it this exam alone will not provide a certificate, only a MCP designation. Is this correct?
  • mrploddymrploddy Member Posts: 38 ■■□□□□□□□□
You get a Microsoft Specialist Certificate (download) and MCP logo.
  • silicon_valleysilicon_valley Member Posts: 5 ■□□□□□□□□□
Just to be confirm, if I pass, I will get a draft certificate from the test center, then a downloadable pdf one, And finally another official one through post? right?

When I had a Lynda.com account I had worked though that course. Granted I haven't taken this exam yet, I would recommend that video series, the content is high quality, well presented, and seems to align well with that is recommended in this thread.

I'm just about to start a HTML5 course on learnable.com, which I picked up during the Christmas sale, will report back on the material.

Thanks mrploddy! I was hoping that was the case.

Just to make sure, Do I get a physical copy of the certificate though post?
  • RobertKaucherRobertKaucher Member Posts: 4,299 ■■■■■■■■■■
MS no longer issues physical certs. You can order them. I think it's around $5 US, but I am not certain.

The last time I checked this particular cert didnt have a physical cert available to order but this might have changed now. You dont get them automatically as its MSs push to save cost and the environment. The ones I did get a physical certificate for from other providers cost significantly more money that the standard price for MS exams.

The PDF is as good as and if you have some decent cart / good printer nobody will be able to tell the difference anyways. You can also download a PDF of your transcript too that shows your completed MS exams (think college transcript).

I just tried to order it and was not able to for this exam either. It might be that they will only offer the paper cert for the full MCSD. I sent an email to the help address. I'll let you know what they say.

    Hi there,

First of all thank you very much for listing all the helpful resources!
I stupidly thought that going through those MVA videos will be sufficient and that the exam is going to be easy... and now I only have a few more days to cram for this exam.

One question I have is that, the videos showed some MS specific stuff. Things like ms-flex-box, ms-grid, WinJS Promises.

Are those coverd in the exam?

    thanks!
    Jeff

Hey Rob! Check out this link. I also implemented this in SharePoint, but of course with this being CSS3 it only works properly in Chrome, Firefox, Opera and Safari

That looks like it would be helpful in conjunction with the other resources suggested in this thread.

NDA prohibits me from saying exactly what's on the exam but I'd advise that you check the study guide in this thread and work through the points in the study guide that are not covered in the videos as there are elements that are definitely examined that are not covered in the videos.

The MVA videos do cover a good percentage of the material but theres a few extra bits that are not covered. Compare the MVA content against the exam objectives and you'll see what I mean.
  • RobertKaucherRobertKaucher Member Posts: 4,299 ■■■■■■■■■■
I'm not even sure why they covered promises in the MVA. Those are not in the objectives... But I guess that was more an intro to the Windows Store apps material just to get the student started thinking about it.

As for the other items like ms-gid, you should have an understanding of those for sure as they do fit within the objectives.

    Thank you guys!!

Not sure if you are allowed to disclose this.. but how many questions are in the exam, and what is the pass mark?

    thanks!

Question numbers vary from test to test as you never get the same test as the previous person but 40 - 50 is average what other people written.

Pass score is 700 but this is a scaled score so does not mean 70%. Its a pass score set by the exam creatorsl

Here is what the MCP Support folks say regarding the purchase of the physical cert as of January 7, 2013:
Unfortunately this certificate is not ready for purchase, but will be in the coming weeks.

    From Microsoft's site:
"Credit Toward CertificationWhen you pass Exam 70-480: Programming in HTML5 with JavaScript and CSS3, you complete the requirements for the following certification(s):
    • Programming in HTML5 with JavaScript and CSS3 Specialist"

So.. does that mean they do not offer even a printed copy of the certificate when you pass yet?

  • RobertKaucherRobertKaucher Member Posts: 4,299 ■■■■■■■■■■
Correct. This is likely due to the name changes from MCTS to MS and the change in color from gold to blue.

You can still download the PDF or XPS version of the certificate and print it yourself. But to purchase a physical copy of the certificate, you will have to wait until February.

Thanks Robert and all of the other guys for the helpful resources!
I'll take the exam on February 6th. I have work experience with C# ASP.NET, HTML CSS and a little of javascript.
I was following these two study guides also:

I don't know much about ajax, although I have done something in the past I think I should study more, now that I read your opinion about the exam.
I also get the free 90 days on pluralsight by dreamspark, and I'll start to study hard now.

Hello and thanks Robert. I've just passed the exam this morning. Mark of 1000/1000!!! Now I'm going to prepare for the next one, the 70-486, about ASP .NET. I see that there's a new study guide, I'll have to check it...
  • RobertKaucherRobertKaucher Member Posts: 4,299 ■■■■■■■■■■
It's not very well developed. If you find resources, please post them! And thanks! You did much better than I did. I only scored an 880.

Just wanted to say thanks to all of those who wrote on this thread. I was able to pass the exam today thanks to many of your comments. It was also quite difficult in some of the ajax areas as well as jquery things since I was not as familiar with them in any of my own experience. Keep up the great work and keep on learning :)
