V.35 frames?

According to Wikipedia:

The Data Service Unit (DSU) manages line control, and converts input and output between RS-232C, RS-449, or V.35 frames from the LAN and the time-division multiplexed (TDM) DSX frames on the T-1 line.

Are RS-232C, RS-449 and V.35 communication protocols besides being physical connector standards?

Also from Wikipedia for RS232:

The standard defines the electrical characteristics and timing of signals, the meaning of signals, and the physical size and pinout of connectors.

iamme4eva, here is a nice article about V.35 signals. So in a nutshell, RS-232C, RS-449 and V.35 are communication protocols besides being physical connector standards. However, all those are pretty much obsolete at nowadays?

RS232 isn't dead - it's used a lot for console interfaces for switches, routers, etc. Pretty sure that the console port on a Cisco piece of equipment is some variation on RS232. Don't quote me though, I'm not massively an expert.
