DNS Settings for new webserver

Hello,
Excuse the stupid question!
Iam curious as to what DNS settings need to be changed if we are migrating from our Windows 2000 webserver to Windows 2003. Iam thinging a new pointer record for the new server, A (CName) Alias, and hostheaders. The new server will have a new static IP. DNS is not my strong suit....But soon it will be....iam getting back in the swig of things with DNS.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated as this sight has been a great help and the members are full of grat knowledge!

Unless you have other services running on that server that need a different name, you have covered the essentials. Regardless, the best thing to do is just check what records exist for the current server. -

hello,
there are several method to accomplished this :
1. fast but extreme - but not common :
change your webserver/www dns ip - common for a total change.
2. redirecting - for a temporer change/upgrading :
you still need your old www server to redirecting the content to your new www server.
cheers...the More I know, that is more and More I dont know.
