Thoughts on the exam

I had started to study for the 701 and 702 last year. Things came up, (basically excuses) that caused me to stop studying. I picked up my book Mike Meyer's AIO, Professor Messor's videos and CompTIA 701 and 702 Exam Cram. Along with working in a help desk position in a windows 7 environment. Though it is a small company in a P2P network.

Do you think I should just buy new books and study for the 800 series. I'm confident that I will get it finished way before the retirement of the exams. Would it be beneficial to just start studying for the 800 series??

I took the 700 series because I already had the book for it. If you already have the 700 series books, might as well take the 700 series exams, you have until August to take them IIRC.

Same thing happened to me. Life got in the way and I stopped studying for the A+.
Until last week, maybe Thurs or so.

I decided I needed to put my excuses behind me and registered for the exam - 701 tues morning, 702 thurs morning. I went over my old notes and crammed over the weekend. Passed the 701 and plan to do the same for the 702 on thurs.

I don't think you need to get new books and switch exams. I think you need to just get started again. And get serious this time. The material is vast and wide, but it's not to difficult. And you have a lot more experience than I do. Get over your excuses, like I did, and just knock the exam out.

Mike Meyers, Exam Cram, and Prof Messer are all you need. Go thru all that and take the associated questions and I'm sure you'll pass.

Set a date (30 days from today) and go take the exams. You are likely more ready than you think. For starters, go over the objectives and see how much of the material seems foreign vs how much a little review will help you out. If you find yourself with mostly 'review' in mind, set the date and get it done.

Pushing off the 700 series to take the 800 and start it and push it back...be brave!

Thanks a lot. So I went ahead and purchased the vouchers today. I haven't set a date yet only because I still need to see when my job will allow me to take time to do the exams. I will keep you guys posted.

So i set my test dates for March 18/19. Question has anyone used Trainsignal? What are there thoughts, I was going to use them for the month for their practices test and videos for refreshers. I still have issues with Raid set ups and Command line. unfortunately I only use a few at work, netsh, ipconfig, tracert. Anyways, any thoughts on Trainsignal would be greatly appreciated.

I don't have experience using Trainsignal, but for the Raid set ups I thought Professor Messer videos did a great job explaining them. At least for me it was very easy to understand maybe you can give them a try.

I have the 801/802 exam cram book. I've noticed that the professor messor site has a lot more videos for the 701/702 test though. Would the content from those videos still be relevant and not mess me up for the 801/802? Or should I stick to the few 801/802 videos he has?

Profesor Messer has completed all the videos for the 801, just not for the 802. But technically, I believe the 801 material is the same as the 802 material, just presented differently.

If you have time to, why not go thru both sets of videos? Personally, I watched the PM videos using VLC player (file > open network > paste the youtube link) so I could accelerate the playback speed. I found it comfortable to watch the videos anywhere from 1.5 to even above 2x speed. You could try the same. Since the A+ has such a wide range of knowledge you need to know, I don't think watching more videos than necessary would hurt you.

Other than that, just go thru the 80x exam objectives to try your best to match the 702 videos to the 802 videos. There is a great deal of overlap between the 70x and 80x exam series, but there are still some differences, so you don't want to mess yourself up in that regard.

I wish I could help you more, but personally I actually took the 70x exams specifically because of the larger amount of free material available in comparison to the 80x exams.
