Hi all

I am in a process of preparing for a network+ exam and i have recently completed my A+.
I need all the possible advise to help me get prepared for the exam and taking these exams is one of my few steps in entering the IT world. I would like to know what do i need to expect, what are the do's and dont of this whole thing. And one final thing how many questions are there in the exam?

Please feel free for any advise people i am probably going to need it. :)

If you look on the CompTIA website, you'll see how many questions you might have in the exam. I used Mike Meyers' book and Professor Messer's videos on YouTube. Good luck!! :D

The exam used to have 100 multiple choice questions. With the addition of the performance based questions, you typically have 70 to 80 multiple choice questions, and anywhere from three to ten performance based questions.

How do you get prepared for those performance based they always seem to at my past exams?
  • JayBliskJayBlisk Member Posts: 182
@Snow.bros on the performance based questions just study like you would regularly. Its just a simulated question i.e. how to setup a router or how it is configured wrong in the diagram. They are really not that hard

Would you say the questions are hands on based questions?

@snow.bros yeah but more simple hands on questions or atleast the ones I had

    Hi all,

Re: Performance based questions - I know all the commands but aside from the obvious switches (ipconfig /all for example) I wouldn't be able to tell you the switches for each command. Does the /help or /? command work within the performance based questions for you to get the right switch?

    Cheers in advance.

@gnome8 no but all you need to know is the basic commands.
@Snow.bros no problem and good luck bro

Thanks @JayBlisk, exams on Sunday - done a bunch of practice exams but none have the simulations in so a little wary on what to expect. Hopefully it will be fine!

As long as you know the commands and obvious switches, you'll be fine. At least for the performance-based questions I had on the exam I passed last week, they were all very practical. The knowledge you had to have to answer the question is knowledge you should actually know and not just memorize for the test. It's not hard at all and if you're ready for any of the multiple-choice questions, you're ready for most of the performance-based questions.

Just understand what you're learning, and understand any diagrams from whatever source you study from.

    All-In-One.
But to be honest, I don't know too much about his passport series, other than they're supposed to be shorter/condensed versions, most likely for people who already have experience. Think the passports are more Mike Meyer's own "Exam Cram"

    Alright sweet...thanks bro.

I have Meyer's Network+ Passport, well actually its summarize of the main All in One book. Even diagrams and some texts are identical.
But the main book is really good.

And let me tell you the worst one I found : Glen E Clarke, Comptia Network+ Certification Study Guide.

BTW, why Prof Messer speaks like a machine gun :)))

I used the exam cram and scored 900/900. Study hard and dont worry about subnetting to much. Good luck bro!

I can hook you up with this online learning course. the retail price is over $500 for like a 3 year license, and thats what I have. They give you online training videos, practice tests, and simulated labs. I take my test tomorrow, so I dont think I will be needing it.
    Network+
