first lab cant ping

In my first lab I set the Ip and it wants me to ping the other routers.. It times out .I have 3 Routers and set up the ip and subnet mask but I cant ping the other routers it keeps timimg out ...THe only thing I can think of is icmp is not turned on...How can I trouble shoot this?

There are many ways to troubleshoot this, but you have provided too few details about your topology. If this is your first lab and you are using serial point-to-point connections between routers, try issuing "show controllers" and ensure the DCE ends are configured with a clock rate and your serial interfaces are not shutdown. I only mention this because I remember having that issue back when I first started.

If you provide a little more detail about your setup, we can probably provide you with more precise troubleshooting suggestions.

Is this a real lab or something like Packet Tracer?

This calls for the bottom-up approach to troubleshooting, so first we check layer 1. How are you connecting the routers, using serial interfaces or just Fast Ether ports? What kind of cables are used to connect the routers?

Do 'show ip int bri' and tell us if the interfaces up/up.

Sorry It has taken me so long to get back to my own Post BUt got callin to work over the weekend...

Ok this is what I have I have a ccna testlab that I orderd online....3 Routers 2600 and 3 switches 2950

One of my routers hasI will call R1 has 2 WIC CUS/DSU T1 cards on the back..

SETUP: out of the R1 the first CSUDSU T1WIC card goes to R2(router2) CSU/DSU WIC card
Out of THe R1 sec. CSU/DSU T1 WIC card goes to R3(router3) CSU/DSU WIC card

One thing I did not say was Im useing cross over cables from router to router and straight thoght cables....

Not sure if Im doing somthing wrong or if its that routers or the csu/dsu card or what ever ...Just wanted to see where to start trouble shooting this ...

As for a general method, verify L1, then L2, then L3. Work your way up the layers to isolate the problem.

What does "show interface" tell you about the status of the interfaces?
What does "show cdp neighbors" tell you?
Finally, what does "ping" tell you?
- Verify connectivity between two neighboring devices.
- Verify connectivity end-to-end.

1) You said your problem was with Serial interfaces, and these are FastEthernet interfaces.
2) Can you see the problem in the output above? Would you expect ping to succeed on this interface?

Try going through the full process I mentioned above. Analyze the output to the best of your ability. Then tell us what layer you believe the problem is at and what you think might be causing a problem at that layer.

The word "Administratively" above is a hint!
