A+ Cert and Recert

I am currently considering my A+ cert, but bought the books about 5 months ago. My boyfriend is also currently certified. Now, if I understand correctly, comptia did NOT used to require recert, but will now on a 3 year rotation? And if that is true then will previously certified individuals be required to go back and recert or get a grandfathered in freebie?

That said, I could be seriously misinformed as this is all very new to me.

I believe as of January 2013 Comptia now requires to be re-certified every 3 years. If you obtain your certification prior to January 1, 2013 your certification is good for life.
