Safe exam info

I've seen this in other forums, but not in this one (at least I didn't find it yet).
For those of you who have passed the exam, can you tell us what kind of questions you ran into? I know you can't legally discuss questions and such, but things like was it mostly OSI questions? or Topology questions? Things like that. In a forum for the 70-291 exam, they would list the total number of questions, how many sims, how many pertained to DNS, etc...

That was a big help when I went to take mine since I had an idea of what to expect, but without anyone having violated the NDA that is in place.

I didn't get many questions regarding OSI. Even if you do, it's only 7 layers and what goes on in each layer should be on the top of your head right now.
A lot of troubleshooting questions, encryption a few port number questions. That was my bank.

Yea, the OSI is on top, but I am still fighting to remember what happens at each layer and what devices work on which layer, things like that...

But, every little bit helps!

Instead of trying to remember what goes in each layer, get the idea of what each layer does.
Router- works with IP(logical addresses), does routing(duh!), so what Layer does routing??? Networking. So, any question regarding routing, IP addresses and such, you know it's about Network Layer.
Switch- works with MAC(physical addresses), so what Layer deals with frames (remember there is no packets)? Data Link. So, any question regarding MAC addresses and such will be about Data Link Layer.
Hub/Bridges work the same way (MAC addresses), so same Layer.
NIC - works with physical cable and signals, then it's gotta be the Physical layer.

Anyway, try to picture what a device does and how operates and then put that device on the respective Layer.
I found this way better to understand what a device does and what layer goes with the device.

That does make sense to me...I find that as I do more reading on the subject and some of the practice exams, it is starting to click...It really is not that complicated once you get the idea behind it. I am also using Mike Myers' book but am thinking about switching to the Syngress book since I have heard many good things about it as far as explanation and the depth of the material.

Do you know what I used for the test?
Just the Cram Session study guide. Only 27 pages, I believe.
That covered almost everything in a very small study guide.

I have the very same study guide printed out and right in front of me...I've used them for all of my exams so far (270, 290, 291, and now Net+).

They are nice studyguides, and best of all, they are FREE!

I just borrowed the CBT Nuggets from my former school, so I'll be watching that too, just for something different.
