VMware virtual networking and security

Hi folds,

I have been studying for my CCNA Security for quite a while now. I don't think I'll get it done this year anymore.. because...I get more and more sidetracked by network and security visualization topics. Since I was given the opportunity to work on VMware related work in my job, I started to love the work. I probably will set the CCNA Security aside for now and pickup these topics for studying:
VMware vCloud Networking & Security: Software-Defined Network Virtualization - United States

Unfortunately I won't be able to afford any kind of VMware training which is required to get certified icon_sad.gif. My question is do you guys know any resources to get started with it (vcloud-network-security)? Maybe books and Lab books to setup a LAB and practice? The beauty about Cisco was that I could buy the books, buy the training videos, self study until I was ready for the exam without having to spend thousands of dollars on actual courses.

Thanks,

I just checked out the certification page, and there is no such thing as a VMware vCloud Networking & Security cert.

You can start by training towards the VMware VCA-Cloud. There is no training requirement.

Give it a few more months. There is talk about a networking track at vmware. With 5.5 being released its all about NSX.

Any guestimate what the course will cost?

It's in the Associate (VCA) tier. All others are $120 before discounts.

Hope to see the VCP-NV out in the next couple of months. I'm guessing it will cost about 200 bucks like other VCP exams.

I'm not going to bother with the VCA exams because I think they are garage and don't provide value. IMO, any certs that allow you to take at home have no traction in the real world. I hate seeing VMware going down this road.

People have been talking about wanting VMware to offer a "free" (in the sense of training) foundation-level certification for the 8 years I've been working in this field...
