The Right Direction?

Hi Everyone,

Been watching the forums for awhile, Decided to join the forum today (Seems to be helpful & useful community!).

Anyway to the point... I did GCSES, GNVQ in ICT Practitioners and fell into working long hours rather than improving my qualifications. I've been working in call centres mostly doing different things(customer service, banking etc).

I recently decided I need to get out of call centres and finally get into what I really want to do, try to get into an ICT Role.

Speaking with a friend who works as an IT Technician/Network Administrator. He advised me if I did Microsoft exams they would stand by me and be useful trying to get into that line of work.

On his advice I did the following:

70-680 - Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist: Windows 7, Configuration. (Which gave me MCP + MCTS) - Which I passed in June.

I'm Currently doing:
70-685 - MCITP: Enterprise Desktop Technician (Continued on from 70-680)
(Which combined with 70-680 will give me Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate - Am I Correct?)

98-361 - MTA:Software Development Fundamentals (Which will give me Microsoft Technology Associate)

I've sent off my CV to a few places outlining what I've passed/currently studying - Having No Luck for even interviews!

Am I going in the right direction with these certificates / what should I do after January IF I pass?

Thanks,
Ciaran

First congrats on the certs you have passed, its a great first step.

What is your end game? What do you want to do?

The 680 and 685 go well together but the MTA you went for doesn't fall in line with those.

The 680 and 685 go well for a help desk or phone support type role but don't dont translate to a sys admin or net admin role very well.
Your MTA is Dev related, so do you want to be a programmer?

If you want to go Sys/Net admin you might look at the MTA network fundamentals and the MTA system administration fundamentals.
after that either MCSA 2008 or MCSA 2012 those would all help a lot more with a system admin position.
