Anyone have personal experience with the Comptia CE program?

dacetodaceto Member Posts: 63 ■■□□□□□□□□
I am coming up on my 1st year with my Sec+ cert and I want to start working on my CEs. Has anyone done this before and if so how does it work? I mean I tried submitting some webinars I took but they always were rejected. I know I can get some for work experience and the like but whats the easiest way to make sure the accept my submissions?

Any help would be great.

The information you are looking for Comptia continuing education is on their site HERE. Basically, how it works is using their or other current industry certifications to renew a Comptia certification. As of for example, A+ is worth 20 CEU (continual education units). Say if you had your CCNA, MCSA, or Network+ that would grant you the 20 credits that you need after you prove it to them via a link to show that you are current. The cert's program fee varies.

Essentially, this is how I am going to do mine:

    A+ (20 CEU): renewed via Network+ (20), Security+ (20), CASP (20), CCNA (20), AND CCNA SECURITY (20)
    Network+ (30 CEU): Security+ (30), CASP (30), CCNA (30), CCNA SECURITY (30)
    Security+ (50 CEU): CCNA SECURITY (50), CASP (50)
    Storage+ (50 CEU): VCP 5 DV (50)
    Cloud+ (50 CEU): CCNA (8 ), CCNA SECURITY (8 ) VCP CLOUD (38 ) (Adds to 54 CEU)
CASP (75 CEU): CCNA SECURITY (75)

VMware certs are lifetime, so essence, if I maintain my Cisco certs (working on various CCNP), it will renew the other Comptia certs. This PDF DOWNLOAD gives more information on pricing and other ways to get CEUs (webinars for example). However, I not sure if the they retired the program or is "automatic" for Comptia certs after 1/1/11.

Thanks for the info. I am familiar with the resources and have paid my 3 year CE fee. I was just hoping to hear some personal accounts of how people are completing CEs and what their overall experience is.

I plan to just get vender certs and use those as my CEs.

Technically, I could now submit my CCENT to renew my Net+ and my A+.
    Goals for 2018:

Learn: Terraform, Kubernetes, Prometheus & Golang | Improve: Docker, Python Programming
    To-do | In Progress | Completed

According to Comptia's CEU chart, CCENT is not available for CEU credit. If you pass your ICND2, you would earn your CCNA to use as CEU credit towards A+ and Network+.

I'm pissed at CompTIA for altering the CE program so that the new Cloud+ and Mobility+ cannot be renewed by simply passing a higher tier CompTIA certification (the way that the older CompTIA CE certifications work). Because of this, I'll either decide not to take the new certs, or simply take them once and let them expire after 3 years. CompTIA certs simply aren't worth the headache of paying yearly fees and earning credits on the side to keep them renewed like this. At this point in my career no one is going to hire me based on CompTIA certs anyway. I liked the way the program was set up before, they shouldn't have messed with it. icon_exclaim.gif
