WGU in a year

finneyjabrahamfinneyjabraham Member Posts: 37 ■■■□□□□□□□
Hey guys,

So I started WGU on Jan 1, 2014 in the Network Administration program. As the title states, I'm attempting to finish my degree in one year, even though I am scheduled to graduate in June 2015. However, since my previous education was 5 years ago, I was only able to transfer a few courses over, 23CU, thus leaving me with 98 CU to complete.

Yes I know it will be a tough challenge to complete and some might doubt that I'll be able to finish it. But I'm going to try to complete as much as I can before the end of the year to the best of my ability.

So here is what I have to complete:

Current Term:
WFV1
CUV1
CLC1
BNC1

Term 2:
TCP1
CDP1
CIC1
BOV1
UBC1
UBT1
CWV1
COV1
CJC1
CQV1
CSV1
IWC1
IWT1
CTV1
AHV1

Term 3:
AGC1
GAC1
CDC1
DHV1
MGC1
AIV1
TPV1
AJV1
SBT1
RBT1

Let me know what you would suggest would be the best way to tackle this list.

I hope this will be a motivation to others.

I hope that you are successful in your pursuit.
You can NOT say.."I hope this will be a motivation to others" Until AFTER you complete it. It is like me saying I am about to climb this mountain, I hope this will be a motivation to others, then get half way realize I was having trouble breathing and come back down.

Good luck on your journey and believe in yourself and go through the program with confidence in your abilities which means don't attempt or try...GET IT Done! I'm starting the same degree program March 1st and I also plan to finish it in 1 year. I'm still waiting to see how many CUs they will waive with my previous education and certs but I'm looking forward to challenge ahead of me.

You can do it. I transferred 28 CU into my program and am on track to finish in 2 terms. Find ratbuddy's thread, you'll find some courses there you might be able to skip. I'll be able to skip 10 CU in my program by passing the higher level classes then applying for requirements satisfied on the lower level classes. For example, you can take the Database class and then apply for RS for Intro to Databases. Group your classes together by topic as much as you can, that will help too.

    Credits from previous education expire?

Just IT courses and IT certs, otherwise no.

Yeah. My web design classes, operating systems, and network (network+ and two cisco classes) didn't transfer over. The only thing I regret at the time was not doing my certifications right after each class. All my IT classes were vendor exams and thus I would have had: A+, Net+, Security+, CCNA, Vista, Office 2007, Server 03 AD, Novell, Linux+. I learned from my mistake and I'm moving forward now.

So, would the stuff like discrete math transfer or is it considered to be an "IT course"? I have a 3-year CS diploma from 2000, not sure what could be transferred.

If you have an associates degree your gen eds can transfer in. However if you do not have a degree I believe that anything older than 5 years will not count.

I transferred everything minus IT courses from 10+ years ago into WGU, there isn't a 5 year limitation outside of certs and IT classes. I didn't have an AS either.

I stand corrected. I misunderstood my enrollment counselor.

I emailed my mentor earlier on in the day in regards to pre-assessments and what happens after we exceed the 3 attempts. I also asked about my status update for my request to write the IT Fundamentals 1 exam and haven't heard back. I am nearly finished reading the material for Organizational Behavior and will probably request that tonight also. Has anyone ran into a similar situation? I'm hoping that I don't have to wait long or I'll give my mentor a call in the morning.

Edit: I realized that I didn't select the schedule now option afterwards. That was a waste of a few days.

I received my voucher for IT fundamentals 1 (WFV1). I'll be scheduling that soon. I've also submitted my approval request for Organizational Behavior (BNC1). I'm going to start the Reasoning and Problem Solving (CLC1) pre-assessment and then study my weak areas. Hopefully I'll be able to request approval by the end of the week.

Finney congrats, I started the IT-Security today (although I'm switching to Network Design) The IT Fundamentals seems rather simple am I missing something?

P.S. I'm trying to finish in a year as well (I've gotten 30 CU for my certs), maybe you and I can keep each other motivated in this thread!

IT Fundamentals really is simple. Another post called a different exam a mile long and an inch deep, the IT Fundamentals exam is like that.

It was an easy exam. I was just taking my time reading the material, which I am regretting now.

I don't know anything about web development so I'm taking my time on that I figure to be done by the end of the week.

I've been BUSY with studying, work, and family. I began this month, after changing my major from IT-Security to IT-Network Design & Management and applying my certifications I need 97 CUs to graduate, so I figure I need to complete around 8 CUs a month in order to graduate in a year. So far I have completed:

IT Fundamentals (test scheduled for Monday)
Foundations of College Mathematics (just want to do the pre-assessment one more time before I schedule the final)

Reasoning and Problem Solving seems to me like it's going to be an absolute blast! I love topics like this, I've already finished module 1 I'm hoping to be done by the end of next week.

I peeked in on English Composition 1 (I was really nervous about this one) and it doesn't seem too bad, so if everything goes well, I'll be finished with 12 CUs by the end of my first month! I really might be able to do it!

I've also been busy with going back to work from a back injury, hence my reason to get out of Desktop Support.

I just completed the Web Technologies class. I'll be spending a bit of time working on the Reasoning and Problem Solving today. Tomorrow, I want to tackle that MVA free voucher course since it's a holiday here. Then back to the Reasoning class.

I'm hoping I can do it within a year. I already have an associate's degree and all my electives I used towards networking classes. I'm not sure if I have to get any Java certs. Programming is going to be my bane in my IT security degree. I'll be fine with any SQL, but I just have issues with Java and C++.

So I took the pre-assessment for Math and boy was there an improvement! The cut score is 64 the first time I took 2 1/2 hours and scored a 71, this time I scored an 89 in a little under a hour and a half!

My assessment is scheduled for Tuesday evening, I'm so ready! I finished module 4 in reasoning, I'm taking today and tomorrow off from studying so I can focus on my 2 upcoming exams.

    Finney, how was Web Technologies?

    Congrats on the pass.
To me, the questions felt almost similar to IT Fundamentals 1. But it was simple.
