I usually studied 15-20 hrs/week and I took about a month off of school total for vacations/breaks, etc. I came in with the A+ and almost no work experience, so most of the material was new to me. All of the CIW and most of the MTA courses can be knocked out in a couple weeks each. I spent a couple months completing the Java courses, so plan for that if you don't have any programming experience. I can't speak for most of the gen ed classes because I transferred in an AA. I would say 22/term should be a piece of cake as long as you stay focused. The best thing I did was write down my study schedule and plan everything else (except work) around it. Try to keep consistent in your study habits and that will help you stay on track. Good luck. I'm sure you'll do well. And thanks for your service.

I could probably knock these three credits out tonight but I'll probably spread it out over today and tomorrow so I don't overwork myself. The certification exams can take a lot longer if it's something you don't have experience in so most people would recommend getting the general IT degree.
tycar86 wrote: » Sorry, I overlooked that you are doing NA track. I did general. It looks like you don't have to do the Java courses, but I'm sure the CCNA and MCSA Server more than make up for that in study time.
PSouz7 wrote: » You just started 10 days ago! I'm sure you'll get more than the minimum 12 CU WGU requires done by the time your term is over Are you doing the NA track?
swild wrote: » I did 60 CUs in my one term at WGU but I feel that is about double the average. I really feel that I wasted several weeks in that term as well and just barely finished my last class before the deadline. I was also working 40 hours a week for the whole term but had plenty of downtime to study. If you challenge yourself, you can achieve anything.

matai wrote: » 21 first term but that was at least two months slacking. Second term will be 16 but that includes Security+, CCENT, CCNA, CCNA Security, Linux+. I think the CUs don't really correlate to the amount of work. CCNA is 3CU, Project+ is 6CU.
PSouz7 wrote: » I'm sure you'll get more than 13 done, did they let you pick your classes? I'm hoping I can do ccent and ccna as my first 2 classes I want to get ccna on my resume as quickly as possible
Flat4ForLife wrote: » First off, congrats on doing WGU I just started this month myself on the security track. About your question, I really don't think they will let you hop into that for your first two classes. While you are able to do classes that are "higher" before, I would imagine those two would be toward the middle or end since they are the bigger certs that you get, require a lot of info, and they want you to have some pre reqs for them. If they will let you though, then thats awesome! Side note, thanks for your service! (USAF myself)
PSouz7 wrote: » Hopefully I can convince my mentor to let me take those classes first. They have the final say correct?
Danielm7 wrote: » Yes, just ask. I'm not aware of a rule that says you need to take any specific class first. I did the A+ first just because I had a lot of experience and I knew I could do it quickly then went for all the Cisco material. I've never been told there are pre-reqs for any WGU class if it's in your degree plan.

PSouz7 wrote: » thank you too, I'm Cyber Transport in the ANG. I just got finished with tech school in January which gave me a decent amount of knowledge that will be useful when studying for CCENT and CCNA, that's the main reason why I want to do those first. I have 48 credits from the CCAF and not a single one transferred in to WGU. Hopefully I can convince my mentor to let me take those classes first. They have the final say correct?
Flat4ForLife wrote: » While your mentor has a big part of what you take at what time, I'm pretty sure there are people above him/her who actually have the final say. That being said, the mentor still plays a big role in it so I would still ask them for sure. On the CCAF part, are you only transferring the classes that came from basic/tech? If so, then yes those will not really do anything for WGU transfer. I completed my CCAF so I was able to transfer in quite a few for the basic classes (math/biology/physics/etc.) but they wouldn't take my dantes tests for the leadership classes so I have to do those anyways. They did take my A+ (which takes care of IT Fundamentals II & III but not I somehow). But your A+/Sec+/Net+ should transfer over (assuming they are in your degree and if it's within last 5 years) so that will knock a few off there. Did you at least get those transferred in?
PSouz7 wrote: » nice, 43 in the last term is impressive doesn't seem like anyone actually only does the minimum 12 CUs a term, gives me hope I will be able to do the same, while working full time.
MSP-IT wrote: » The only real challenging course in this semester's line-up was the CCNA: Security. I had Christmas break to study for that. The rest were courses I could finish within a week or two.
