Very fascnating, how we can improve existing technolgy allowing fiber optics to be cheaper and more durable then the ones we have. Then all of us can afford fiber opics if the manufactoring diffculy and resource usage into creating it went down. Think about it computers eovling even faster in network commucation. It would be wonderful age for computer networking

Yes it would.

Unfortunately the problem lies in all that fiber that was laid down way back when under railroad tracks and the like all across the nation. They can't just go digging that up to put this new stuff in.

However, this will be great for usage in extreme technological advances, nanotechnology could also benefit from this, so it's a great idea and an interesting discovery.

hey we can start rewiring the net if such was so cheap so the inital upgrade would be expesnive but it would be great!

But think about the actual downtime of all the areas that fiber has been laid down at. Besides, since that fiber has been laid down we have come up with many different ways to use fiber and different spectrums of light, etc.

None of the pre-existing fiber was upgraded then, and it won't be upgraded unless a lot of effort is placed into it on the federal government and state government's parts (because the main thing that is preventing firms from relaying down new fiber is not just the price or the amount of time taken to do so, but legal restrictions and restrictions from the states).

It would take massive planning because there would simply be no way to ensure that such an upgrade would indeed actually be better. The current fiber that is there works, and that's perfectly fine in many cases.

The major area that could benefit from this technology is the manufacturing sector, as many smart tools are beginning to use ethernet technologies for communication.

But, can they duplicate the process? And, would the cost of duplication really be justified--would if be that much better than present technology?

I'm thinking long fiber, not 7"--unless they can fuse the fibers effectively.

I can see this being something that boimedical might pursue and then maybe info tech could ride their coat tails.

Yea i suppose but hey be cool for backbones to the net to be improved but yea cost arrgggg lol. Well most of us wish the internet would evole even quicker then it already has. lol
