tax deductions?
Are lab gear and courses tax deductible? I am not a business owner, but I am a full time student at the moment. My plan is to purchase CCNA Sec/CCNP lab gear and enroll in the elearnsecurity course. If I could claim these on my taxes it would be great.

Publication 970 (2013), Tax Benefits for Education
"Sports, games, hobbies, and noncredit courses: Qualified education expenses generally do not include expenses that relate to any course of instruction or other education that involves sports, games or hobbies, or any noncredit course. However, if the course of instruction or other education is part of the student's degree program, these expenses can qualify." -

I used to claim self education expenses for work that were not reimbursed but now a days the deduction doesn't make a dent so it's not worth it for me.
