Explicit permissions

Explicit permissions are set on the ACL of a file or folder - correct??

I thought I had mastered permissions on my 70-270 material. It seems permissions get more and more messy for each exam... icon_confused.gif

Yes. Explicit permissions are explicitly defined (or set) on the file/folder, while implicit permissions are inherited.

Or obtained through group membership (which I suppose is a kind of inheritance).

AD objects can also have explicit and inherited permissions as well.

2003 added a neat function to the security tab which is showing effective permissions a security principle object would have on this object. Microsoft should have had that a LONG time ago, even if it was a separate tool.
